Buthaud was born in Sainte, France, on December 14, 1881. He was artistic, and from 1903 until 1907, he studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux. He was able to pursue his studies in Paris, thanks to a grant to attends the École des Beaux Arts* in Paris, where he studied until 1913.
