About Richard Deacon

    Richard Deacon is best known for his large-scale, fabricated sculptures. His wood and steel constructions are organic in form and have been compared to human anatomy.

    Born in Bangor, Wales, in 1949, Deacon attended the Somerset College if Art in Taunton in 1968. He went on to study at the St. Martins School of Art in London (1970-1973) and the Royal College of Art, where he received a Masters degree in Environmental Media in 1977. He formed his artistic style and vision during his academic years and by the time he entered graduate school he had begun to focus on architectural fabrication.
