About Richard Marquis

  • Biography

    After studying both ceramics and glass in California in the mid 1960s, he gained early recognition with blown glass. In 1969, he had a Fulbright Scholarship to Murano, Italy and mastered the techniques of Venetian glass blowing and "murrine," the slicing of colored glass. He is known for his signature teapots, quirky and humorous.

    Richard Marquis, glassblower and collector of beat-up, vintage objects, has had an extraordinary influence on the development of contemporary studio glass in America and around the world. His work is humorous, ironic, smart, and beautifully, some might say obsessively, made.
