    An illustrator and painter, Richard Powers has done numerous children's books, cover designs, and poetry books for Dell Publishing and a series on "Major Cultures of the World" for World Publishing." He has also illustrated for Esquire, Saturday Evening Post, Redbook, Life, and Natural History. In addition to conventional illustration, he also did about 400 science fiction/fantasy paintings and a portfolio of surrealist paintings titled Space Time Warp.

    He had nearly thirty one-man shows at the Rehn Gallery in New York, and also exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Corcoran Gallery, the National Academy of Design, and the Whitney Museum.
