    Richard Paul Burkhardt-Untermhaus was born in Untermhaus in 1883. He was a German landscape painter and graphic artist. Initially trained as a lithographer, he studied at the Königliche Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden from 1901 to 1905. Then, until 1913, he studied at the Dresden Academy of Art, under Richard Müller, Eugen Bracht and Oskar Zwintscher.

    Burkhardt-Untermhaus did freelance work as a landscape and veduta painter in Dresden, as well as a commercial artist producing advertising and election posters. He also worked as a painting and drawing teacher, with Paula Lauenstein being one of his pupils.
