    The artist was born in Somerset and studied at The Royal West of England College of Art, Bristol and at the Slade School of Fine Art under the tutelage of George Sweet and Claude Rogers. He moved to Cornwall in 1957 and taught painting at Falmouth School of Art alongside his old Slade friend, Francis Hewlett. He later became interested in architecture and the preservation of ancient buildings.

    After several years, he turned his attention to painting full-time and, in 1978, became artist in residence at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter, who hold a number of large paintings in their permanent collection.
