From 1953 to 1970, he was a stain-glass designer for Emil Frei Associates in St. Louis, and from 1970, was a designer with Winfield Jewelry. From 1964 to 1990, he was a professor of art at Maryville University in St. Louis. From 1953 to 1970, he was a stain-glass designer for Emil Frei Associates in St. Louis, and from 1970, was a designer with Winfield Jewelry. From 1964 to 1990, he was a professor of art at Maryville University in St. Louis.
He has done commission pieces including a bronze and steel Ark Wall for Temple Israel in St. Louis and a window for the Washington Cathedral.
In retirement, Winfield settled in Carmel, California.
