Rolf Kuhrt was born in 1936 in Bergzow, Germany. He is a German painter, graphic artist, and sculptor whose career spans both the GDR and post-reunification periods. Kuhrt began his professional life with a brief apprenticeship as a chemical worker in 1950, followed by training as a lettering and poster painter, which he completed in 1954.

From 1954 to 1956, Kuhrt studied at the Technical College for Applied Arts in Magdeburg.
