    Roman Bratkowski was born in Lviv in 1869. From 1888-1890, Bratkowski studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow under the supervision of Feliks Szynalewski, Izydor Jablonski and Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz. Then he studied at the Academy of Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl and Alfred Eisenmenger, and in the years 1894-1896 at the private school of Anton Ažbé in Munich. Until 1919 Roman Bratkowski lived permanently in Lviv, where from 1903 he taught painting at the Stanislaw Batowski school, and from 1912 he was also a professor at the Free Academy of Art.
