    Rowland Suddaby was born in Kimberworth, Yorkshire in 1912. He studied at the Sheffield College of Art and later attended the Royal College of Art in London. Suddaby gained recognition for his work in ornamenting titles for black and white films and had successful exhibitions at various galleries in London. He was also involved in the local artistic community, co-founding the Colchester Arts Society in 1946. Suddaby's work was acquired by prominent collectors and institutions, including the V&A. He later settled in Suffolk and became the curator of Gainsborough’s House Museum.
