About Roy Krenkel

  • Biography

Comic and fantasy artist Roy G. Krenkel made his reputation in illustration but the artist disliked the confines of illustration and much preferred to draw action and fantasy pictures of his own inspiration. He often signed his work RGK.

Krenkel, who never held a regular job, only worked in illustration to pay the bills. Some of Krenkel's best pen and inks, done only for the pleasure of drawing, are in private collections and unknown to the public.

Krenkel was born on July 11, 1918 in New York City. Krenkel attended Hogarth School of Visual Arts, The New York Artist's League and Cooper Union. He studied with George Bridgman prior to serving in the US Army in the Philippines during War World II.
