About Salomon Corrodi

  • Biography

Salomon Corrodi was a Swiss artist who flourished in the 19th century. He received his training as a landscape painter in Zurich before moving to Rome in 1832. He was part of the circle of Joseph Anton Koch and Johann Christian Reinhart and continued his education in the studio of Franz Ludwig Catel. In 1845, he was one of the founding members of the Deutscher Künstlerverein. Corrodi was known for his talent as a watercolorist and his rare paintings. He found his home and motifs in Italy, where he had high-ranking clients, including the Grand Duke of Tuscany and Tsar Nicholas I. Our painting demonstrates that even in later years, Corrodi still tried to reproduce landscape and architectural elements as accurately as possible
