His mother was a part-time actress. Scarpitta graduated from Hollywood High School, and then went to Italy where from 1936-1958, he lived in Rome, and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served as a "monuments man", meaning he was part of a multi-national effort to find, catalog and rescue fine... Read full biography
