    Sighard Gille was born in 1941 in Eilenburg. He studied at the 'Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst' under Bernhard Heisig and Wolfgang Mattheuer from 1965-70.  After briefly working as a freelance artist, he became a master student of Bernhard Heisig at the Academy of Arts in Berlin in 1973 to 1976.

    Back in Leipzig, he worked as an assistant at the HGBL where he every now and again received teaching positions.  In 1982 he was awarded the National Prize of the GDR (German Democratic Republic) for art and literature.

    His early works from the 60s to the late 80s are dealing with subjects of realism in an expressive manner.  In the late 80s, the use of color comes more into focus, it is powerful, intense and wil...
