    An outsider artist early in her career, Sonia Centeno Dainty was a poet and writer in addition to being an artist. At age 12, she moved to New York City from her birthplace of Puerto Rico, and remained there until 1970 when she married James Albert Dainty and moved to England for five years. Then returning to New York State in 1975, she lived in Greenwood Lake until 1984, when she moved to Monroe, New York.

    As a young girl she was very sickly with asthma as well as impoverished, but showing early talent, began painting at age nine. She took lessons at the Art Academy in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and after moving to New York City, enrolled at the Cardinal Spelman Center in 1964. She also joined several youth groups...
