    Spyros Vikatos was born 1878 in Argostoli of Kefalonia. After high school he came to Athens and enrolled at the School of Fine Arts at the Technical University where he studied for several years under the late Nykiforon Ransom. The young artist showed great promise, winning scholarships and awards.

    He received a scholarship to study in Munich at the world famous Academy of Fine Arts. In 1903 he received the first prize among 300 for his work "The Chess". In 1904 he received a silver medal in a World exhibition in Athens, followed by many other national and international awards.
