About Stephan Gorus

  • Biography

Stephan Gorus (1913 -?) was a pupil of his father Pieter Gorus and trained in drawing and painting at the Dendermonde Academy with F. Willaert, Pr. Lenssens, J. Maes and F. Gogo. His academic training leads to fairly classic nudes, portraits and still lifes. Subsequently, he accompanied his father during his pictorial hikes. Until around 1946, he created landscapes in a neo-impressionist style. After the Second World War, he evolves in a more expressionist sense. Towards the end of the 1950s, he took a more abstract path. His abstract canvases are quite unknown and yet, this is where the artist takes all its value. His nervous brushstroke gives his paintings an impression of permanent movement.
