Steve Canaday grew up in Detroit but left the city 10 years ago and now lives and works in Echo Park, Los Angeles. He received a BFA from WSU and an MFA at UCLA but did his informal art training in the Cass Corridor, which became a neighbourhood incubator for painters, sculptors and musicians beginning in the late 1960s. Canaday left Detroit painting abstractions, and found his voice in realism on the west coast. His work included some forest and desert scenes, LA architecture bleached in the ocean reflection and remembrances of Detroit with his "factory paintings." Canaday has work in the collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and FC MoCA Manchester in England.
