About Steven Campbell

    Steven Campbell was born in 1953 in Glasgow. He worked as an engineer in a steelworks from 1970 to 1977 before studying at The Glasgow School of Art from 1978 to 1982.

    In 1982 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and studied at the Pratt Institute in New York. He had highly successful shows in New York in 1983, which led to exhibitions in London and Edinburgh in 1984-5.
    He moved back to Glasgow in 1986. He was included in the exhibition The Vigorous Imagination: New Scottish Art in Edinburgh in 1987. He was Artist-in-Residence at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney in 1990.

    He showed frequently in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh from 1987 to 2004.
