    German Battle, landscape and soldier painter, Theodor Rocholl studied at the academy Dresden under L. Richter and J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld, in Munich under C. von Piloty as well as at the academy Düsseldorf under W. Sohn.

    Theodor Rocholl was one of the most productive and successful military painters of the late 19th century. He participated in several wars as a war artist, among others in Turkey and China. His often dramatic compositions were carried out in a sketchy, pastose style revealing Impressionist influences.
