Painter and lithographer, Theodore Polos was born in Mytilene, Greece on Feb. 16, 1901. Polos emigrated to Boston in 1916 and to San Francisco in 1922. He studied with Constance Macky at the San Francisco Institute of Art and with Xavier Martinez at Oakland's College of Arts and Crafts. During the 1940s and 1950s he taught at both schools as well as the San Francisco Academy of Advertising Art. He abandoned lithography in the late 1930s. Most of his years in California were spent as a resident of Oakland where he died in 1976. His works are often semi-abstract.
