    Theodore B. Modra was born in Warsaw, Poland on May 13, 1873. Modra studied art in Paris at Académie Colarossi and in Munich with H. Grober. After immigrating to NYC in 1887, he had further training with Robert Henri. He was active on the East Coast until early 1915 when he settled in southern California. Modra was art director of the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona (1921-30) and organized exhibitions for the Pacific Southwest Expo of 1928. He lived in Long Beach, Pomona, and Los Angeles until his death in the latter on Oct. 28, 1930.
