Ender Thomas
  • Biography

Thomas Ender was one of the most important Austrian watercolorists of the 19th century. Patronized by Prince Clemens Metternich, he took part in the Austrian-Brazilian expedition where he executed numerous works in pencil and watercolor. He also undertook study trips to the Orient, Greece and Paris, enabling him to extend his repertoire of landscapes accordingly.

He was primarily interested in topographical precision, reflecting the spirit of his time. This is particularly evident in his scenes of the Austrian Alps, executed as a commission from the Imperial family.
