Thomas Hudson was a fashionable portrait painter in London during the mid-18th Century. He was a pupil of Jonathan Richardson and gained recognition as a portrait painter, acquiring the patronage of London society during the 1740s and 1750s. Hudson's sitters included the Duke of Cumberland and George Frederic Handel. He taught Sir Joshua Reynolds and married Richardson's daughter.
