    Thomas Sidney Moran (1863-1930) was a son of the Philadelphia painter and photographer John Moran (1831-1902) and Sarah Malvina (or Melvina) Smith (1831-1893). He was a nephew of the painters Thomas Moran (1837-1926), who was famous for landscapes of the American West, and Edward Moran (1829-1901), one of the country's most respected marine painters.

    Born in Philadelphia, Thomas Sidney Moran specialized in landscapes and seascapes like his famous uncles. By the end of the 19th century he had moved from Philadelphia to New York City.
