    MILNER, Stuart, 1909 - 1969

    As Thomas Stuart Milner, he was born at Leyton, Essex on 27 April 1909, second son of Francis Henry Milner, a solicitor's clerk, and his wife Lillian Jane née Chandler, who married at Isle of Wight, Hampshire in 1906. In 1911, a 1 year old, living at 485 High Road, Wood Green, Leyton, Essex with his parents, 31 year old Francis and 29 year of Lillian, with a 3 year old sibling Francis Highland.

    Stuart studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and at Regent Street Polytechnic 1926-1929. Originally working as an interior decorator and furniture designer in London before moving to East Anglia to concentrate on painting but was virtually self-taught, he painted heraldic devices but also working ...
