    Thoreau MacDonald CGP, CPE (1901 – 1989)

    An important Canadian illustrator, painter, printmaker, graphic artist, writer, craftsman, and sculptor, Thoreau MacDonald was born in Toronto, Ontario and lived on the family farm in Thornhill (“Greater Toronto Area”) from 1912 and for the rest of his life. He is the subject of an article in the Canadian Encyclopedia (188 words); he designed the layouts, end papers, covers, or illustrated over 200 books and catalogues; he was a founding member of the Canadian Group of Painters* [CGP] and a member of the Society of Canadian Painters-Etchers and Engravers* [CPE].
