    Toni Elster, a painter and graphic artist (1861 Bremen and 1948 Munich), came from a wealthy Bremen merchant family. She undertook extensive travels (France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland), lived in Bremen and after an illness, turned to painting later in life. From 1897 she made study visits to Munich, worked as a watercolor painter, went on study trip to Scotland, studied with John Terris (1865 - 1914), returned to Munich and became a student of the landscape painter Professor Fritz Baer (1850 - 1919).

    She maintained studios in Bremen and Munich, at times even active in the artists' colony Dötlingen. 1900 exhibitions in Munich glass Palace, from 1904 member of the Luitpold group charged exhibitions in Berlin, Munic...
