About Tor Bjurstrom

  • Biography

Tor Bjurstrom became a teacher at Valand's painting school in Gothenburg in the latter part of the 1920s. He studied with Henri Matisse in Paris and was part of the modernist group De unga in 1909.

Bjurstrom preferred to depict the rolling landscape outside Gothenburg throughout the year. His earlier paintings had sweeping shapes and undulating brushstrokes, expressing wind gusts and a mist-like veil over the landscape. Later, his palette became more expressive.
