    The Swedish painter Torsten Jovinge lived a short but eventful life and left few known works at his death. He lived from 1898 to 1936. After graduating in Stockholm, Jovinge studied at Althin's painting school and then at Carl Wilhelmson's painting school. Jovinge continued his art studies with André Lhote in Paris in the mid-1920s. In the French capital, the young artist was imprisoned by the purely post-Cubist forms advocated by Fernand Léger, Le Corbusier and Amédée Ozenfant and became an early supporter of the so-called purism. Elegant geometric shapes and a cool color scheme characterize Torsten Jovinge's painting. The many trips he made to Southern France, Copenhagen, Spain and Morocco inspired many of his depictions...
