After graduating in Stockholm, Jovinge studied at Althin's painting school and then at Carl Wilhelmson's painting school. Jovinge continued his art studies with André Lhote in Paris in the mid-1920s. In the French capital, the young artist was imprisoned by the purely post-Cubist forms advocated by Fernand Léger, Le Corbusier and Amédée Ozenfant and became an early supporter of the so-called purism.
