    Vera Cunningham was a colorful character to put it mildly. She had serious relationships with Bernard Meninsky and Matthew Smith, who painted a number of pictures of her, which generally filled the canvas emphasizing her voluptuous figure. Malcolm Yorke described her as "a guffawing, red haired, rosy cheeked, plump bodied, highly sexed young woman determined to be a professional artist."

    She achieved her aim and exhibited in several galleries often with Matthew Smith in the UK and Paris.
