After completing military service in Naples and Sicily he returned to Venice for a few years before moving with his family to Abruzzo, where he worked as a teacher. However, it does not interrupt his artistic research and in 1898 he undertook a journey in several stages across Europe, tightening contacts particularly with the French landscape.
