  • Biography

Vladimir Grigorievic Weisberg was a self-taught artist from the Soviet Union who became known as one of the masters of unofficial Soviet art in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and received commissions from the state, despite distancing himself from the expected "Social Realism" style.

Weisberg's artistic search for White on White led him to become a painter of the invisible, using shades of white and gray to reveal volumes and shapes of objects emerging from an enigmatic fog. He had his first personal exhibition in Paris in 1984, but did not attend for fear of political reprisals. His first personal exhibition in the USSR took place three years after his death in 1988.
