He became established with his fish still life beginning in 1873 when he exhibited four paintings, each a catch of fish, at the Crystal Palace in London. Exhibitions: Boston Atheneum (1846-1869), the Apollo Association (1852), and the National Academy of Design (1860 and 1865). He was a member of the latter organization.
