About Walter Sutter

    Born in San Francisco, CA on Dec. 31, 1888. Sutter was a lifelong resident of his native city except for a brief period when he lived in the San Joaquin Valley. He worked as a sign painter while studing at the local Institute of Art in 1909-10 and received encouragement from Maynard Dixon. A sign painter, in his leisure he painted landscapes of Marin County and the Big Sur south of Carmel. Sutter died on June 3, 1938. Exh: San Francisco Art Association, 1925-29; Beaux Arts Club (SF), 1927; San Diego FA Gallery, 1927; Calif. State Fair, 1930. In: Nevada Museum (Reno).
