Important German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1929 Schönebeck/Elbe - 2004 Leipzig), considered a founder of the "Leipzig School" alongside Wolfgang Mattheuer, Bernhard Heisig and Heinz Zander. He apprenticed as a painter in Schönebeck (1945-46) and attended the master crafts school in Magdeburg. He studied at the HGB Leipzig (1948-50) under Elisabeth Voigt, Walter Arnold, and Ernst Hassebrauk, was a member of the Schönebeck Circle, and was influenced by Katharina Heise.
