    Wilhelm List was born in Vienna in 1864.

    From 1885 to 1889, Wilhelm List studied under the guidance of Christian Griepenkerl at the Academy in Vienna. He then studied in Munich under Ludwig Löfftz and Paul Höcker. Additionally, he spent time studying at the Paris Academy.

    Beginning in 1893, List exhibited at the Künstlerhaus Wien. In 1897, he founded the Vienna Secesson along with Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, and others.

    List’s works are clearly influenced by Art Nouveau, and have a similarity to Gustav Klimt’s oeuvre. His favorite subjects were portraits, landscapes and genre paintings. Moreover, he created a large number of woodcuts and lithographs.
