About Wille Salonen

  • Biography

    Wille Salonen (1918-1970s)

He was the twin brother of Lauri Salonen (1918-1986). He always lived in Finland and never moved to Canada as his twin brother did. He was more prolific than Lauri with similar artistic themes - landscapes featuring lakes and forests.

Both Lauri and Wille were boxers in Finland before World War II. Both were conscientious objectors due to their Jehovah's Witness faith, and Lauri was in jail for much of World War II as a result. Both quit boxing after the war.

Wille died before Lauri, in the late 1970s. According to the family, he was in Sweden when he died.

Information provided by Simon Dimuantes, grandson of Lauri Salonen.
