About William Samuel Parrott

  • Biography

Born in Missouri in 1843. At age four Parrott made the overland trek to Oregon in a prairie schooner with his family. Artistically inclined as a child, he began sketching and painting the area around his home in the Klickitat Valley. He opened his first studio in Portland in 1867. After 20 years there, he closed the studio and spent several years in the wilds of Oregon, Washington, and California. He established a studio in Oakland, CA in 1906 and for six years painted there before returning to the Klickitat area. His landscapes of Mt Hood, Mt Shasta, Crater Lake, and other scenic spots on the Pacific Coast brought him great national renown before his death near Goldendale, WA on June 7, 1915.
