    The third son of Henry Brocas Senior, William Brocas was born about 1794. Walter Strickland records that he was an exhibitor at the Society of Artists in 1809 and 1812 and at the Royal Hibernian Academy, reasonably consistently from 1828 to 1863. Works exhibited there were a variety of portraits, rural genre scenes and landscapes. As well as such works, William Brocas worked as a horse and animal portraitist, though Crookshank and Glin opined that his animals 'are sometimes rather naïve'. The landscapes of Brocas usually have a strong genre element. The composition of the painting and treatment of the subject displays the influence of an earlier generation of Irish landscape artists such as Barret, Mullins and O'Connor....
