    Professor Willy Kriegel was born in Dresden on February 23, 1901. From 1915 to 1919 he trained as a draftsman in Dresden. Starting from 1922 he was at the Dresden Academy where Max Feldbauer and Oskar Kokoschka were his teachers. After graduating Kokoschka's master class, he made his first study trip to Italy.

    From 1929 to 1931 he was on Majorca for study reasons. Starting from 1928 we find him on many expositions in Berlin, Dresden, Zittau and Chemnitz. In 1930 Kriegel received the Dürer prize. In 1936 he exhibited his works on the Biennale in Venice. In 1937 he received the gold medal on the Paris International Exposition. In 1938 he made his third journey to Italy.
