    Born in East Frisia, the landscape painter Willy Ter Hell (1883-1947) was a student of Heinrich Harder (1858-1935) at the Academy of the Arts Berlin and Eugen Bracht (1842-1921) in Dresden. From 1906, he participated in the major art exhibitions in Berlin and in 1914 he was commissioned to paint the lobby of the New City Hall in Berlin-Schöneberg. He was twice awarded with the Gold Medal: in 1913 in Munich and in 1914 in Berlin.
