Born in Fuzhou in 1940, Li Xubai is a lover of Chinese classics and worked as editor for art and collecting magazines, The World of Collectors and Dragon Roots, when he moved to Hong Kong in 1979.

Li currently lives in Canada and spends much time painting and traveling in various parts of China to gain inspiration for his artistic creations. Li Xubai is a rare example of a contemporary painter and a poet. He uses negative space to convey snow, streams, rivers, clouds, and mists, radiating a glowing light that contrasts sharply with the darker tones of mountains and vegetation.
