    Duan Zheng-Qu was born in 1958 in a farm village in China. Duan is a member of the Chinese Artists' Association, graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, majored in oil painting, and is currently the professor of Capital Normal University, and guest professor of China Central Academy of Fine Arts.

    In his painting, Duan portrays farm houses, farmers and what's described in the folk songs. He uses black as the main outline and red to represent the heaviness, hardship and warmness of lives around loss. He is fond of portraying farmers particularly in this area since they are not affected by the commercial culture, and can still sing loudly, easily and freely.
