The artist whose work is often described as expressionist was a classically trained painter with roots in the Italian renaissance but a distinctly modern aesthetic. He taught at the Washington University in St. Louis for over 30 years and served as a Dean at the Columbus Art School where he taught in the “Bauhaus method.” .
