He uses Native American models and simulates those early days by standing in the path of stampeding buffalo, participating in 1880-style shoot outs, and spending time on Civil War battlefields. He usually works on several paintings at once, moving from one canvas to the next. DeMott was raised on a thoroughbred racehorse ranch in Southern California and loved hanging out with the cowboys.
