Vincent's grandparents came from Spain after the First World War. His mother, nearly blind since age two, raised him in Albany, New York. He remembers his kindergarten paintings, painted with pots of tempera paint, and in high school was mentored by his art teacher Mr Wertman, who encouraged him to continue on to Pratt Institute where he got his BFA.
