William Johnson Bixbee (1850-1921) painter, illustrator, teacher, was born in 1850 in Manchester, New Hampshire, although he lived most of his life in Boston and Marblehead, Massachusetts. He studied at the Lowell Institute, with Tommaso Juglaris, S. P. Rolt Triscott, and Marcus Waterman. Bixbee is known to have painted in oil, watercolor, and pastel, but he was more comfortable and proficient with watercolors.
