Albert Gustav Schwartz was a landscape and genre painter. His first apprenticeship was as a locksmith, and he studied from 1854 at the Academy of Berlin with Max Schmidt. Schwartz took a one and a half year study trip to Italy (Rome, Naples, Sorrento and Capri), then from 1873-78 he was a student of Anton von Werner in Berlin. Schwartz took a one and a half year study trip to Italy (Rome, Naples, Sorrento and Capri), then from 1873-78 he was a student of Anton von Werner in Berlin. From 1854-78, Albert Gustav Schwartz took part in the Berlin Academy exhibition. He was active in Berlin, but emigrated in 1878 with his wife Agnes Müller and his three children to Manchester and finally to South America.
